GMAP’s Programme Manager was in Kilinochchi, Sri Lanka, to conduct the monitoring of the resettlement process. GMAP has been welcomed by the HALO Trust to support their mine action programme in Sri Lanka. The HALO Trust programme puts special emphasis in engaging with war widows and those women heading single-headed households to give them and their families a second chance.

The Programme Manager was able to witness how mine action contributes to peace building and stabilisation in Northern Sri Lanka. “With this job I got my dignity back”, said the female section commander, who is a war widow who takes care of her three children. “People look at me and see that I contribute to the community. By clearing mines, I clear the land where people can resettle”.
