GMAP delivered a module on gender and diversity considerations at a GICHD-organised NTS training to a group of 37 people in Colombia, including staff from the national authority (DAICMA) and from several corps of the armed forces (BIDES, Inspección general, CENAM, Escuela de Ingenieros). GMAP also supervised the practical NTS exercise.
There were only three female participants in the course (two military and one civilian), however there was a consensus among the group that all NTS teams should include women to ensure better access to all information. The advantages of teams including at least one woman became apparent during the practical exercise, as informants were more comfortable and team work improved.
GMAP’s participation to the GICHD’s NTS training in Colombia was possible thanks to funding from the U.S. Department of State’s Office for Weapons Removal and Abatement.
